A two-family house with the theme of "courtyard". At the second floor, the floor and the courtyard are on different levels and float softly. These two courtyards loosely divide a large one-room, and help to form the different living environments for each of the two families.
この建築の構造は、２組の鉄骨フレームから外周壁と2階の床を吊るという工法をとっている。これにより、内部空間から柱を取り除くことと、2階の床をレベルを変えてふわりと浮かせることが可能になった。
１階の床の一部が隆起したようなコの字の囲いは、他から独立し自立する構造になっている。
この中に「ニワ」のガラスの箱を、床を貫通させたり、床にのせたりと、床との関係において変化をつけながら大小２つ配置し、上から光と外気を呼び込み、全体がひとつながりの空間を柔らかく区切らせている。
This building is composed of a pair of steel frames from which the outer walls and the second-story floor are suspended.
Using this construction method allowed the architect to eliminate posts from the interior space and alter the height of the floor on the second story so that it floats softly within the structure.
On the first story, the floor appears to rise up in one area and create the walls and roof of a small enclosure that is structurally independent from the rest of the room.
Glass boxes set inside the interior of the house form two courtyard gardens, one large and one small. The relationship between the gardens and the floor fluctuates, with the floor penetrating the garden in some places and the garden sitting on top of the floor in others. The gardens invite light and air into the structure, gently partitioning the unified interior space.
